What Does Ethics Mean?
Ethics is when individuals can choose between good or bad and when individuals respect the rules. Lack of Ethics is when people do not respect the rules, do something bad and do not feel guilty about it. This also applies to Sport. In sport there is a lot of cheating, sometimes from the players when they act out as if they were injured, sometimes from people who bet on the games and pay players to throw the game. Lack of Ethics can put an end to your career or somebody else’s career. Professional players have a lot of stress that influence their good and bad choices in the game.
1) How have Sport Ethics changed over time? Kicking and other physical cheating has always existed. Cheating by taking drugs (ex:EPO blood doping) is a new type of cheating, because in the past there was no way to check. Now athletes get tested all the time but companies that make these drugs are always developing new ones that can not be detected. Testing labs try to catch up with the drugs companies. There are only few drugs that cannot be detected in an athlete’s body with so much testing.It seems that there will be more sport ethics in the future as athletes get checked regularly and control labs are getting better.2)How is a person driven to cheat in sports? A sportsman is driven to cheat because:
if he breaks the rules he might paid more money.
taking banned drugs will make him/her look better than the other sportsmen.
he/she listens to their trainer and trusts him. The trainer is not
honest.
sometimes advertisements influence the sportsperson to try something illegal.
3)Does the understanding of sport ethics change depending on where the athletes comes from?
No because everywhere in the world there are examples of athletes breaking the rules.Each sport has very strict rules against cheating consequence.
Tour De France
Their are many things you need to know about the tour de france and A.S.O (Amaury Sport Organisation). Know the rules of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) and the Fédération française de cyclisme. Every cyclist has to sign a paper from the Anti doping control that you use a drug, doping,steroid or EPO. Every cyclist has to be checked after 1 round in the race because of the drug or doping.
FIFA
Every player in the fifa world cup has to be checked before the game starts but some players take drugs and doping after the test.The fifa world cup has a connection to WADA(world anti doping agency). WADA is a anti doping agency.There were many problems in the fifa world cup for example Maradonna with the hand of god.
